The three main types of sheds available are wooden, plastic and metal.

Wooden sheds continue to be the most popular of these three options for a variety of different reasons. First and foremost they are made of natural materials, and therefore work in harmony with its surroundings, as opposed to plastic or metal. They are also a more environmentally friendly option as wood is a renewable resource.

Wooden sheds can also be more versatile than other shed materials, as they can be drilled and cut easily should you want to add shelving doors or windows. However it is important to remember that as a natural product, over time wooden sheds can become susceptible to mildew or mold, and rot, warp or split.

The majority of wooden sheds now come pretreated, however this should be renewed every year to ensure its ongoing effectiveness. There are a wide variety of plain preservatives on the market, whilst stains and varnishes can also be used to change the look of your shed if you so wish. There are a number of different options available, from natural wood based colours such as cedar and oak, to vivid hues designed to make your shed stand out and become a feature.
